Newcastle City Council s planning chiefs have approved proposals for the 15,000sq shopping apps ft Simply Food outlet at the junction of Great North Road and Hollywood Avenue in Gosforth.
Under the project, the Multi York furniture store will be demolished and replaced by the new two-storey shop, fronting on to Great North Road. The site will include an M&S cafe and 44 parking spaces.
The shop, which will be located opposite an Asda store and within half a mile of a Sainsbury s and Co-op, shopping apps is expected to have an annual turnover of around 7m. Coun Henry Gallagher, who represents the East Gosforth ward on the city council, said: The scheme will create 60 jobs, which is very welcome. And the new store would offer more choice for customers.
