Suddenly you will find it - the restaurant which is quite unique, the restaurant stand out. Even in New York. Or maybe just because. Antique Garage is such a restaurant. It is so beautifully decorated that it takes a while before you even look at the menu. There is so much antiques and tasteful free1 details, you (or at least I) get the urge to bring everything home. For starters: Take a look at the name: Antique Garage. Yes, of course it is a former garage, an old garage. The only thing that possibly gossip about it today, is the somewhat anonymous entrance and shape of the room.
On the exposed brick walls are crowded golden mirrors with artistic, antique lamps and paintings. From the Roof "runs" a grand chandelier as a sparkling waterfall. A seemingly random miscellany, which together are completely incomparable.
Here, I came with a friend to enjoy a brunch one Sunday in April. Patios seemed at first a little tempting, in the spring sunshine. But the funky decor won, so it was a table indoors. The former garage door, however, was wide open to the street life with air and light.
On our table was soon respective Mimosa and an omelette. We let ourselves well to taste this Turkish free1 restaurant, where tables free1 neighbors' choices should perhaps shown the way - a Turkish dish. But soon we too take part in a Turkish specialty. After the food was worn a dessert in, "on the house", respectively brittle, delicate baklava. This pastry can easily become too sweet, but here it was a real cannonball.
Naturally, we were curious as to who was behind this particular free1 restaurant. And that we would soon know; he was namely on the spot in the premises. Soon he was sitting at our table for a little interview: Utku Cinel, owner and founder. In 2003 he opened the Antique Garage, and since then the success was a fact. But it was not all that believed in the idea from the beginning. - Here was a car repair shop from the beginning, confirms Utku during free1 our conversation. People thought I was quite "psycho" when I said I wanted to turn it into a restaurant. They did not think it would go! But Utku went to work: The color was removed from the walls, so the bricks arrived and antiques from his large collections came into place. Utku Cinels main interests are namely antiques and - you guessed it - cooking. Now he had an outlet for both interests, in an idea that was that you could eat and then buy and bring things home. Nowadays, however, things in the premises for sale. He simply has no time to purchase new. Restaurant Operations takes all the time. In addition, several films have been shot here, in this unique free1 environment to say the least. Utku Cinel also engaged as an interior designer for clients with stardom. - I have, among other things, decorated Brooke Shields bedroom! he says with a smile.
Finally, ask him much trevlige that we should stay a while longer. Soon, namely a group of musicians playing. The program includes music from his native Turkey. free1 And certainly we stop, both to enjoy the music and another Mimosa. Constantly filled the venue of the increasing number of hungry guests, who realized that we also made: On the Antique Garage happy man.
When we finally go out on Soho's streets for more adventure, we have with us the business card. Of course there will be visits to Antique free1 Garage. The address is 41 Mercer St. (between Broome free1 St. and Grand St.). Enjoy!
The first place I visited, the first time I was in New York. Jumped out of the taxi and July heat that struck me made me quite simply that with suitcase in hand, sit down and take something cold. It has become more visits since. Wonderful place! Reply Delete
